Covering a momentous period in mankind’s history, this blog tracks the significant events which rocked global capitalism from early 2007. This was a time in which investors panicked, markets crashed and banks collapsed on both sides of the Atlantic. Regulators and politicians mounted the most audacious financial rescues in living memory. But can Western economies ever be the same again? Here you’ll find some of the worrying statistics which caused the current crisis.
Hi, I’m Markus Hart – an individual who knows precious little about global economies. My special gift, though, is finding the bigger picture among all the noise. So, you won’t find much commentary here – I’m really not qualified to provide much insight. Hopefully, though, you’ll find the collected statistics interesting and useful as you try to make sense of life in a senseless world.
I started this site in September 2008, although I’ve been online with various websites since 2003. My own quest to discover what really makes this world work (or not work, as the case may be) started in the late 1980′s, so I’ve had a few years of serious wondering about what makes news meaningful.
I currently live in London, England but I’ve travelled widely and have lived in 16 cities on 4 continents. I stopped counting when I visited my 300th city a few years back, so I’ve seen a fair bit of this planet we call home. With this global mindest, I tend not to favour any particular worldview, and I trust this will be reflected in the stats I collect.
Enjoy the site, and please feel free to leave comments or suggest corrections – I do read every one.
